about the artist

Olive Cheng (née Monte) is an artist based in Perth, Western Australia. Her work is mainly focused around the themes of local Australian botanicals and nature - subjects largely informed by her previous work in landscape architecture and design. She also has an interest in creating historical art, and she runs talks and community workshops. She is a qualified Primary and Early Childhood teacher..

Olive works across a range of media to explore subjects but mostly uses the technique of pyrography, or wood burning, She also paints and creates murals in public spaces.

 

Olive has undertaken projects working with wider communities, schools, libraries, local history collections and historians which have resulted in works acquired by local governments and councils including The City of Vincent, the City of Swan, the City of South Perth and The Catholic Church. Olive's work has been extensively acquired by private collectors Australia wide and internationally.
